As a new author I still have a lot to learn about promoting myself and my book. But, over the course of time, and through trial and error I have picked up a few tidbits that might you to bypass some of my mistakes. Here is what I came up with:
1) Write a good book. (Promotion can only go so far.) 2) Seek reviews. (Do this as soon as possible. Several months response time is not unheard of.) (You can ask friends and family to do a review, but they may not do it very quickly either) 3) Get a website. (On a website you can let people get to know you as well as introducing your book.) (You can offer a description of your book as well as a picture.) (Add links to your website. That will potentially add more traffic.) 4) Join organizations: (Reading groups are good. They will help you to promote your book. I think it is) (essential though that you also participate as a reader.) The following is a list of a few groups you might want to check out: 2. Librarything 3. Goodreads 4. There are others. Check the internet. 5) join facebook. (add a page to promote your book.) 6) Join Amazon author central if you have a book on Amazon. 7) Join Book Daily. 8) Join askdave.com 9) Check out other websites that might over good tips. One that I think is great is: www.jakonrath.com

I was just informed that I have been getting a lot of traffic on my website lately. That's great. I feel bad, though, that I don't have more to offer. A lot of this stuff is new to me, but day by day I'm learning a little bit more.
I hope to be installing some interesting and entertaining stuff here in the near future, as well as some kind of giveaway. I am a member of Goodreads (the reading site) and am on facebook. I have a link to Goodreads on my site, but I haven't figured out how to install a link to my facebook page. I also have a link to ASK DAVE where my book is to be listed. I don't know if it's there yet. I was told it could be a few weeks. If you would like a free copy of NEXUS and feel lucky Goodreads is sponsoring a giveaway of 20 of my books. They determine the winners. Signing up with goodreads is free with no obligations. Try it it just might be for you. And no I don't get paid for that plug. Go to home page and click on Goodreads link. One more thing. If anyone has any ideas how I can liven things up here contact me. As someone once said. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching ... Well, you know. This is my first official website. I do have one under my name. That's www.nexusthebook.com. The thing is
that was put up by Xlibris Publishers as a place to showcase my book and as an outlet to order my book. I was not involved in the set up of it, nor do I have the ability to edit anything. I wanted a website that I could control myself, not only for my present book, but for future books. This is on the job training for me. I expect things to be pretty thin on my website for a while, until I can get the hang of creating and installing. Like I said, I created this website not only for the present, but for the future. The near future is my next novel that is currently in the works. It is tentatively titled THE COMING OF DARK. It is a horror novel. Presently I estimate that I am about halfway through. As far as completion date I cannot predict at this time. I was asked if there was going to be a sequel to NEXUS. I have considered it, but I think that's down the road a bit. If I were to get substancial requests for a sequel, though, I might have to move it up on my priority list. |
