It seems that most writer's have a niche that they write in. For some authors it may be the horror genre. For others it is mystery, or thrillers, or comedy, or any other genre. For Stephen King it is the horror novel, though his reach has extended to fantasy and a couple other genres. The same could be said for Dean Koontz who is often placed next to Stephen King. Tom Clancy had his military, international thriller type stories. I could go on and on, but I think my point is made.
I'm not sure where I belong. My YA novel THE DOORWAY is mostly fantasy. NEXUS: EXPANDED EDITION is primarily science fiction. THE COMING OF DARK is a combination of mystery, suspense and horror. And the book I am currently working on is mostly in the horror genre. So where do I belong? Maybe I just won't fit into one category. I think my writing is like my reading. Currently I'm reading LAST MAN STANDING by David Baldacci. After that I have the Stephen King novel DOCTOR SLEEP to read. Then there's that ODD book of Dean Koontz to read. And I also read John Grisham's novels and James Patterson's novels. I'm wanting to read his Mister Paterson's book ZOO sometime in the not too distant future. I guess I'll just write as the mood hits me for now. Maybe my thoughts will narrow in the future and I can slip into one of these niches and people will begin to know me by my genre. Until then ...
